The "Translations" tab: manual edits and auto-translation

How to type translations by hand, compare them with another language and run auto-translation of empty lines within a monthly allowance.

The "Translations" tab appears as soon as at least one language is chosen on your page. Menus → Translations

Translate by hand

  1. Choose a language at the top. If the original language is set, it is the first button, with a lock: its names are edited on the "Dishes" tab.
  2. The original is on the left and the "Translation" field is on the right. Type the text: it saves by itself when you move to another field.
  3. To compare with another language you have already translated, choose it in "Compare with".
  4. If "Not saved" appears by a field, press "Retry".

The "Translated N of M" counter shows how many lines are filled in. An empty translation is fine: guests see the original.

Auto-translation

The "Translate the empty ones" button, with a number of lines, translates the empty fields of the chosen language in one go.

  • Only empty fields are filled. Your own translations are never overwritten.
  • It translates names and descriptions of dishes and categories, names of portion options, menus, add-on sets and their rows, and the texts of the header and the "About" tab. Lines of switched-off features are left out.
  • Add-ons go in batches. If the service says that not all were translated, press the button again.
  • Machine translation can be inaccurate, so look through the dish names afterwards.

The allowance

Auto-translation is a paid feature. It is counted in lines within the monthly allowance of your plan, shared by all your menus. Next to the button you see how many are "left". When the allowance is used up, the button reads "Auto-translation used up" and an explanation appears below it. Manual translation and everything translated earlier keep working. The allowance renews on the 1st. If your plan has no auto-translation, the button is unavailable. There is also a daily limit per page. Profile menu → Plan
