Dish photos: upload and crop
How to upload, replace and remove a dish photo, add many photos at once, and what the service does with your file.
A dish with a good photo gets ordered more often. In the list the photo is shown as a square.
Upload a photo for one dish
- On the "Dishes" tab, click the thumbnail (or the camera icon, if there is no photo yet) in the dish row. The tooltip says "Photo, description, badge". Menus → Dishes
- In the "Dish photo" block, click the frame or drop a file onto it ("Drop or choose a file").
- The "Crop image" window opens. Drag the photo and zoom with the mouse wheel or a pinch, so the dish sits in the middle of the square, then press "Apply".
- To change the photo press "Replace", to delete it press "Remove photo".
Photos from an iPhone
You can pick HEIC photos as they are: the service converts them itself, and the crop frame opens the same way. If a message about HEIC appears, pick the photo through the Photos app, or on the iPhone turn on Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.
Many photos at once
Press "Data" → "Upload photos in bulk" and choose the files. Photos are matched to dishes by file name: "caesar.jpg" fits "Caesar salad", and leading digits or underscores do not matter. In the "Dish photos" window check the pairs, change a dish or choose "— skip —", then press "Upload". Photos are cropped to a square around the centre.
What the service does with the file
- Shrinks and compresses it, so the page opens quickly on a guest's phone.
- Removes shooting data, including location and the phone model.
- Prepares a smaller copy for the dish list.
- Refuses a file that is too large and states the allowed size. Compress it and try again.
If a dish has no photo
In "Menu settings → Venue" upload a "Stand-in for missing dish photos", for example your logo. When a dish gets its own photo, it replaces the stand-in by itself. Menus → Menu settings → Venue
If guests see an empty frame instead of a photo, press "Data" → "Check the files".
